A short history
Talking boards with letters and a moving pointer became popular parlor entertainment in the late 19th century and were commercially sold from the 1890s onward. They've stayed a fixture of pop culture and party games since, more often played for the thrill of the moment than for any answer taken literally.
How Munyeo uses it
The board is a game interface: your question feeds a short, generated line of text, spelled out letter by letter for effect. Munyeo frames it as entertainment from the start, not as a channel to anything.
