Who is Munyeo?
In Korean, 巫女(무녀) — munyeo — names a woman who works as a go-between for the spirit world and the everyday one, historically leading gut ceremonies, giving readings, and offering care for the community. The role goes back over a thousand years in Korean folk practice and continues today in smaller, mostly private form.

Korean shamanism in 60 seconds
Four terms come up often. Mudang (무당) — a Korean shamanic practitioner, most often a woman, who serves as a go-between for spirits and people. Gut (굿) — a ceremony led by a mudang, combining music, dance, and speech to mark occasions or address a community's concerns. Sinnaerim (신내림) — the experience some mudang describe as the moment they took on the role, often after a period of illness or crisis. Gongsu (공수) — the words a mudang speaks during a gut, framed in the tradition as spoken on a spirit's behalf.
